Philip Andrew Roos of Marshall, Texas went home to glory on October 6, 2016 at the age of 68. He was born March 19, 1948 in Pineland, Texas to Carl Herman Roos and Grace Ryerson. Philip was one of eleven children. He graduated from Huntington High School in Huntington, Texas. He served his country in the army during the Vietnam War as a Specialist Five with the 63rd Signal Battalion. Philip received the Army Commendation Medal for performance of exceptionally meritorious service. He was honorably discharged from the Army and went on to attend Sam Houston State University. He received a Bachelor's degree in business from Stephen F. Austin State University. He married Melanie Elaine McAnally in 1974. They have one son and identical twin daughters. Philip was a 'jack of all trades'. There was no job he couldn't do. Even if he hadn't done it before, he made it look like he was an expert. He loved the Lord and wanted everyone to know Him. He was 'Pappy' to his nine grandchildren; Pappy loved them dearly and enjoyed taking them hunting and fishing. He was an avid beekeeper and woodworker. Pappy ministered to the spiritual needs of many at the 12 Way Foundation where he volunteered. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie, of 42 years, his son, Philip Andrew (Andy) II and wife Kara, daughter JoAnna Segers, daughter Angela Faulkner and husband Austin, grandchildren Ethan, Jared, Brandon and Hannah Segers, Mary Grace and Garrett Roos, Wyatt, Valerie and Kolt Faulkner, sisters Joanna Modisette and Lois Gunn of Lufkin, brothers David Roos and wife Glenda of Kentucky, Joe Roos and wife Ruth of Aledo, Peter Roos of Lufkin, sisters-in-law Barbara Roos of Mississippi, Charlotte Roos of Fairview, and Barbara Roos of Tyler, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Grace Roos, brothers, Jim, John and Paul Roos, sisters, Adina Stacey and Beth McKnight. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM at Crossroads Baptist Church in Marshall. A special thanks to Meadowbrook Funeral Home for helping us through this difficult time and to all our family and friends for their love and prayers that will sustain us in the days to come. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the 12 Way Foundation of Marshall, TX.
